Shell keep owning that overrated entitled Polish, Iga Swiatek becomes

Publish date: 2024-07-30

On Friday night, Elena Rybakina pulled off a surprise victory over Iga Swiatek with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the semifinals of Indian Wells. This win has now set up a rematch against Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the WTA 1000 event, with whom Rybakina faced off in the Australian Open earlier this year. Rybakina emerged victorious in that match with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

This made her only the second player, after Barbora Krejcikova, to beat Swiatek twice since she became the world No. 1. Fans were shocked and so did the entire tennis world after Swiatek’s defeat. Rybakina proved that her win over the top seed at the Australian Open was not a one-time thing. Fans took to Twitter and started mocking the Polish and calling her overrated.

A few fans suggested her to focus on her game first before being an activist. They also went on to praise the duo of Sabalenka and Rybakina for their consistent performances. Fans also mocked the world No.1 by saying she can only win matches against players who don’t have that winning mentality.

She'll keep owning that overrated entitled Polish and I'm here for it😂

Iga is giving much time & energy to being an activist while Rybakina & Sabalenka focus on leveling up. As a free speech maximalist I was hoping for the tennis gods to come through & deliver a humbling match. Still a fan of the girl though Rybakina becoming a mega star is good too

Right from the beginning of the match, Rybakina was fully focused. She began by holding her serve effortlessly in the opening game, followed by breaking Swiatek’s serve and then holding again, to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Although Swiatek managed to hold her next two service games, keeping herself in the match, Rybakina regained her momentum from 4-2 and won seven consecutive games to surge ahead to a 6-2, 5-0 lead.

Iga needs to keep putting that ridiculous flag on her cap every time she plays Elena. Makes the loss tastier. 😅

Iga getting smashed once again against opponents who don't feel intimidated by her; who don't let her dictate play. Iga plays her best tennis against opponents who cower; opponents who come with a losing mentality.

Fans laud Elena Rybakina’s consistency and wish her to win more

The 10th-ranked player from Kazakhstan, Rybakina, hit a total of 18 winners and committed 12 unforced errors. She capitalized on all five of her break-point opportunities. In contrast, Iga Swiatek had 9 winners and made 17 unforced errors. She was only able to convert one of her four break-point opportunities.

I will keep saying it. Iga needs to work on her serve. She can’t afford to play defensively against Rybakina. You have to go for your shots.

Rybakina will now face Sabalenka in the final at the Indian Wells tournament. Sabalenka defeated Maria Sakkari in the earlier semifinal in straight sets to advance to the final. Although Rybakina has faced Sabalenka four times before, she has yet to win a match against her. Nevertheless, a few people still backed Swiatek and appreciated her efforts so far.

Elena Rybakina again and again playing great tennis!👏🏻👏🏻…as for @iga_swiatek , it’s okay to lose, and the positive thing is she finally able to control her emotion, and positive body language, compared during AO match! keep on grinding iga!

When I saw her beat Serena at @rolandgarros in 2021, I knew there was something special about her. It was her first time playing SW in a slam, and she played like that😮? I was pissed and amazed at the same time. She can play on the dirt too.💪🏾 #TennisParadise #IndianWells

However, all four of their previous matches have been highly competitive three-setters. This includes the intense Australian Open final earlier this year, where Sabalenka narrowly defeated Rybakina with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Fans wished Iga to return strong in the Miami Open starting later this month.

Well deserved. Excellent performance by Elena Rybakina.
Swiatek es a great tennis great player. No doubt! But I believe she is a bit overrated. Her ranking jumped in part because Ashleigh Barty retired, and because Naomi Osaka is temporarily out of the circuit.

The thing about Iga Swiatek is you can tell that she has to work very hard at her game
I don't think she's a natural talent
In my opinion, she's very lucky that Ashleigh Barty has retired early
