Khamzat Chimaev shut down his doubters by defeating Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 in a brutal fight. However, the fight was extremely close and attracted mixed reactions from the fans. Despite everything, the fact is Chimaev is currently the #3 ranked fighter in the welterweight division. Chimaev’s target has always been to fight Kamaru Usman for the championship belt but that fight is a bit far from him now.

After that Burns fight, Chimaev’s name was linked with many fighters such as Colby Covington, Nate Diaz etc. Currently, Chimaev’s seems to have a plan to fight Diaz in August and Belal Muhammad in October.

On top of that, recently after UFC 276, Chimaev called out Alex Pereira for a fight and asked UFC to make that fight.

Khamzat Chimaev shows of his Middleweight physique

Khamzat Chimaev recently took to Twitter in order to share a picture of him after completing a training session. In the picture, Chimaev can be seen doing cardio on the treadmill and looking bigger than usual.

It is clearly visible that the fighter has gained some weight since he last fought Burns inside the octagon.

This might be a sign from Chimaev to move up and fight a middleweight bout in future. Something similar was also said by Alan Nascimento, head coach at the All-Stars gym in Sweden in his interview with Sherdog.com.

” Since he is currently weighing [210 pounds], I advised him to fight someone from middleweight in August, and then return to welterweight in October. Since [Derek] Brunson already defeated Darren Till, he liked that possibility, but everything will depend on the UFC’s decision. If the UFC gets Nate Diaz for August and Belal Muhammad for October, he will be ready. What he wants most is to stay active,” said Nascimento.

It is surely an interesting thing to assume that Chimaev is going to make his middleweight debut soon. The fighter has the charisma to bring some entertainment to the middleweight division which is currently not going that well.
