Romanian businessman and former Top 10 player Ion Tiriac has compared Roger Federer to his two great rivals, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Swiss Maestro was the first member of the Big 3 to retire, ending his career in 2022.

Despite the Grand Slam count favoring Djokovic and Nadal, Tiriac believes that Federer’s legacy is in a different league compared to his rivals.

Actually, I know very little about Roger Federer, but he has always respected me. I sincerely think that he is really a category apart if we compare him to Nadal or Djokovic, for example. He’s a player who invented things on a tennis court that didn’t exist. Physically, he was always a little below Djokovic and Nadal, but the talent he had in his hands is a certainty.
Ion Tiriac said in an interview with We Love Tennis

Federer retired from professional tennis in September 2022 after being unable to recover from knee surgery. It was his third knee surgery in two years, which hampered his movement and recovery. The 43-year-old announced his retirement to the world in September 2022 before ending his career at the Laver Cup later that month. He partnered with Nadal in men’s doubles action on the first day of the competition.

Roger Federer’s involvement in tennis after retirement

In his retirement note, Roger Federer assured fans that he would not be a ‘ghost’. Many tennis players, including Bjorn Borg, tend to disappear from the game after hanging up their rackets.

However, Federer seems to be enjoying the game after his playing days. He was seen supporting the Laver Cup in 2023. Federer announced a documentary called Federer: Last Twelve Days to capture the final 12 days of his professional career. It was broadcast on Amazon Prime.

On his 43rd birthday, Federer announced a new Wilson racket model called ‘RF01’. It was the first new racket model he introduced since his retirement. His last racket on the professional tour was the Wilson RF97 model.
