20 Cars Similar to the Chevy Trailblazer
In 1999, the Chevrolet Trailblazer was first introduced as a mid-size SUV and had a run until it was replaced in 2009 by the Traverse crossover SUV. The model years of the first generation of the Trailblazer ran from 2001 until 2008. At the time, it was presented as an upscale trim of the compact four-door unit, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer.
Technically speaking, the Trailblazer didn’t start the GMT360 truck platform for the SUV until 2002. From 2002 until 2005, it was a four-wheel-drive vehicle, except for the SS model, which was based on an all-wheel-drive system.
After the Trailblazer was discontinued in 2008, it wasn’t until 2011 that the second generation of this model would make its way back to the consumer market. However, its reintroduction was for the Asian market at that time when it was first unveiled as a concept during the 2011 Dubai Motor Show.
It was then displayed as a production model in 2012 at the Bangkok Motor Show. Built in Thailand and Brazil, this new breed of Trailblazers was sold in Asia, India, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. In Australia, it was sold as the Holden Colorado from 2012 until 2016 before it was rebadged as the Trailblazer.
Going with the second generation of Chevy Trailblazers, which has had a limited production run since 2011, there are about twenty or so cars that have been built similar to this mid-size SUV. Now in 2022, the new Chevrolet Trailblazer is in the form of a subcompact crossover SUV. Starting at $21,600 USD, it’s striving straight back into the North American consumer market. However, they’re not alone in the subcompact crossover SUV department that seeks to do the same thing.
The newest lineup of the Trailblazer comes either as a 1.2-liter that delivers 137 horsepower at 162 pounds per foot torque, or a 1.3-liter engine that has a 155-horsepower output at 174 pounds per foot torque. The fuel efficiency rating is measured between thirty to thirty-three miles per gallon on the highway, and between twenty-six and twenty-nine miles per gallon in the city.
Here are 20 cars similar to the Chevy Blazer:
1. Buick Encore GX
Since the Chevrolet Trailblazer and the Buick Encore GX come from the same General Motors camp, these two are going to have pretty much everything in common. Both have the five-door SUV classification. The two share the exact same GM VSS-F platform, and they both have the option between a nine-speed automatic all-wheel-drive and a CVT four-wheel-drive.
The only real difference here is the luxuries involved and the starting price point. Encore GX’s pricing starts at $25,900 USD, making it start a few thousand dollars higher than its Trailblazer cousin. There’s also a slightly smaller cargo space capacity of 50.2 cubic feet compared to Trailblazer’s 54.4 volume. Just like the Trailblazer’s 155-horsepower output, the Encore GX does the same. At 102.2 inches, GX’s wheelbase is slightly smaller than Trailblazer’s 103.9 inches.
2. Chevrolet Trax
Aside from the Chevrolet Trax and the Chevy Trailblazer coming from the same General Motors family, these two crossover SUV units have more than just the same makers in common each other. They’re both classified as compact SUVs and they have similar mileage ratings. They both seat five people and they both come with more than one drivetrain option each.
The Trax has a bit less cargo storage capacity at 48.4 cubic inches as opposed to the 54.4 cubic square footage the Trailblazer has. Just like its Chevrolet cousin, the Trax has a 155-horsepower output but its fuel economy rating was not quite as efficient. Compared to the Trailblazer, the Trax was less friendly with twenty-four miles per gallon in the city and thirty-two miles per gallon on the highway.
3. Dodge Hornet
What do the Dodge Hornet and the Chevy Trailblazer have in common with each other? They’re both compact crossover SUV units and both have a sleek and sporty appearance. The Hornet is Dodge’s answer to get more involved in the crossover SUV market, and it is a brand new design by the company that aims to give units like the Chevy Trailblazer a run for its money.
The estimated starting point cost of a Hornet is expected to be $30,000 USD and is based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale design. The Hornet is destined to replace the Dodge Journey as the demand for smaller SUV units that are more environmentally friendlier continues to rise.
4. Ford EcoSport
The horsepower output of the Ford EcoSport is 166 at 6,500 revs per minute and 149 pounds per foot of torque at 4,500 revs per minute. The wheelbase is measured at 99.2 inches long with a vehicle length of 161.3 inches and a width of 69.5 inches.
Compared to the Chevy Trailblazer, it’s shorter by just over ten inches and slightly skinner by under two inches. While the EcoSport can reach sixty miles per hour in 9.8 seconds, the Trailblazer can do it in 9.4 seconds. Just like the Trailblazer, there is an option between a front-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive.
The fuel economy for the EsoSport is thirty miles per gallon on the highway and twenty-six miles per gallon in the city. It shares the compact SUV classification and it shares the five-passenger capacity.
The base price starts at $22,040 USD and it shares the same 400-mile driving range when starting with a full fuel tank. Both of them also share the same 11.8-inch vented disc front brake system. The rear brakes of the EcoSport are measured at 10.7 inches while the Trailblazer is at 10.4 inches.
5. Honda HR-V
Just like the Chevy Trailblazer, the Honda HR-V has the option between a front-wheel drivetrain or an all-wheel. It shares the same compact crossover SUV characteristics and the continuously variable automatic transmission system.
The horsepower output of the HR-V is measured at 158, based on 6,500 revs per minute of torque. The wheelbase is measured at 104.5 inches with the vehicle length and width at 179.8 inches and 72.4 inches, respectively. It can reach sixty miles per hour a bit quicker than the Trailblazer, as it’s able to do this in as little as 8.3 seconds.
On the highway, depending on which trim you choose for the HR-V, it matches Trailblazer’s fuel economy ratings in the city, on the highway, and combined. Honda’s starting price for its HR-V models is $23,650 USD, making it a wee bit pricier than the Trailblazer’s $21,600 USD.
6. Hyundai Kona
Starting at $21,300 USD, the Hyundai Kona shares the four-wheel drivetrain as the Chevy Trailblazer. It also shares the five-passenger capacity, and the subcompact crossover SUV classification.
On the highway, it shares the thirty-three mile per gallon rating but in the city, it’s slightly less at twenty-five miles per gallon as opposed to Trailblazer’s twenty-six miles per gallon. At 165.6 inches long and 70.9 inches wide, it’s smaller than the 173.5 inches in length and 71.2 inches in width. The cargo volume for the Kona measures up to 45.8 cubic feet while Trailblazer is at 54.4 cubic feet.
7. Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue, as a front-wheel compact crossover SUV, starts at $19,000 USD. It shares the continuous variable automatic transmission as the Chevy Trailblazer and the five-passenger seating capacity.
In 8.5 seconds, it can zip from zero to sixty miles per hour and it has a horsepower output of 121, based on 6,300 revs per minute. Just like the Chevy Trailblazer, there are different trim options to choose from, which allows for increased luxuries and performance levels.
On the highway, the fuel economy rating is thirty-one miles per gallon while in the city it’s twenty-nine. This makes the two vehicles similar enough to each other that if one model doesn’t suit your fancy, perhaps the other one will.
8. Jeep Renegade
Jeep Renegade’s wheelbase is measured at 101.2 inches and has a length and width measurement of 166.6 inches and 74.2 inches. It’s slightly shorter and fatter than the Chevy Trailblazer and is able to reach a sixty-miles-per-hour in nine seconds. Its fuel economy rating isn’t as great, though, as it’s only twenty-nine miles per gallon on the highway and twenty-three miles per gallon in the city.
The starting price is $24,695 USD and has a 177-horsepower output, based on 5,750 revs per minute. Its torque capacity is 200 pounds per foot, based on 1,750 revs per minute. The nine-speed automatic transmission also features a manual shifting mode and it shares Trailblazer’s options between a front-wheel drivetrain or an all-wheel. Both of these compact SUV models are similar to each other when factoring in overall measurements, specs, and performance.
9. Kia Seltos
Coming from Kia, the 2021 Selto serves as the newest crossover SUV in its lineup. It’s also the smallest that serves as an all-wheel-drive option to its infamous Soul model. It’s slightly larger than the Soul and is classified as a subcompact crossover SUV. Starting at $22,995 USD, this award-winning, rising star in the SUV world has won over critics and a consumer marketplace most impressively.
Like the Trailblazer, it holds five people inside. It is, however, an all-wheel-drive and has a better highway miles-per-gallon performance at a rating of thirty-five instead of thirty-three. However, in the city, the Trailblazer has Seltos beat, even if it’s just at one mile per gallon.
10. Kia Soul
At $19.790 USD, which its starting price is based on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, the Kia Soul as a compact crossover SUV has much in common with the Chevy Trailblazer in that regard. Soul’s front-wheel drivetrain, and five-passenger capacity, are the same as its competitor.

When it comes to city performance, the Chevy Trailblazer offers a better value over the Mazda CX-30. On the highway, however, they’re exactly the same at thirty-three miles per gallon.
They’re also identical in passenger capacity, as well as sharing the front-wheel drivetrain. The starting price of the CX-30 is $22,500 USD, making it a wee bit higher priced, too. The horsepower output of the CX-30 is rated at 186 while the Chevy Trailblazer has it at 137, which perhaps justifies the price difference.
12. MINI Cooper Countryman
Both the MINI Cooper Countryman and the Chevy Trailblazer are classified as compact crossover SUV units. Both of them have the front-wheel drivetrain and both of them have the all-wheel-drive option as well. To justify the $34,950 base price, the Countryman can reach sixty miles per hour in just 6.8 seconds compared to Trailblazer’s 9.4 performance level.
The fuel economy rating between the two units has the Trailblazer beat the Countryman by two miles per gallon in the city but fails to measure up to its competitor’s highway performance level by three miles per gallon.
The Countryman’s horsepower output is 189, based on 6,000 revs per minute, which has more oomph than Trailblazer’s 155 horses. As for passenger volume, it’s ninety-seven cubic feet inside the Countryman, which is just shy of Trailblazer by just one cubic inch. The Trailblazer has more cargo capacity at twenty-five cubic feet, compared to Countryman’s seventeen cubic feet measurement.
13. Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport starts at $21,795 USD and shares the same compact crossover SUV classification as the Chevy Trailblazer. It’s slightly shorter at 171.9 inches long but its 71.3-inch width is barely noticeable as a wider vehicle than the 71.2 measurements with the Trailblazer.
The Trailblazer’s length is 173.7 inches but has a shorter wheelbase at 103.9 inches compared to Outlander’s 105.1 inches. Both of these units are similarly priced with the Outlander Sport starting at $21,795 USD while it’s $21,600 USD with the Trailblazer.
The Mitsubishi’s fuel economy rating isn’t as impressive as Trailblazer’s, as it’s twenty-eight miles per gallon on the highway and twenty-three miles per gallon in the city.
Mitsubishi can, however, reach sixty miles per hour in just eight seconds compared to the Trailblazer accomplishing this in 9.4 seconds. As for top speeds, Trailblazer can hit 130 miles per hour while the Outlander Sport hits as high as 123 miles per hour.
14. Nissan Kicks
Starting at $19,900 USD, the Nissan Kicks shares the subcompact crossover SUV rating as the Chevy Trailblazer. Measured at 169.1 inches long, it’s slightly shorter than the Trailblazer’s 173.7 inches in length. It’s also skinnier at 69.3 inches, compared to 71.2 inches for the Trailblazer.
Both units have a continuously variable automatic transmission, as well as a front-wheel drivetrain. Kicks has a horsepower output of 122, based on 6,300 revs per minute, and a torque performance of 114 pounds per foot, based on 4,000 revs per minute. At 9.6 seconds, it can reach sixty miles per hour, which is just 0.2 seconds slower than Trailblazer’s score.
15. Nissan Rogue Sport
The Nissan Rogue Sport starts at $24,760 USD and has a horsepower rating of 141, based on 6,000 revs per minute. It’s torque performance is 147 pounds per foot, based on 4,400 revs per minute. It shares the Chevy Trailblazer’s classification as a compact crossover SUV.
The passenger capacity of five people allows ninety-four cubic feet of space, which is comparable to Trailblazer’s ninety-eight cubic feet. The cargo volume is twenty cubic feet, which is five cubic feet smaller than its competitor. In the city, the Rogue Sport has a twenty-five miles per gallon rating and a thirty-two miles per gallon score on the highway.
16. Subaru Crosstrek
The Subaru Crosstrek starts at $23,645 USD and shares the same classification as the Chevy Trailblazer in the crossover SUV department. It also shares the five-passenger capacity and there isn’t much difference between its miles-per-gallon rating. However, the base model of Crosstrek has it as a manual transmission instead of an automatic.
However, there are automatic transmission options for the Crosstrek, for a price, if one is willing to go there. Its horsepower output is very similar to the Chevy Trailblazer at the rating of 137 at the 5,000 revs-per-minute mark. Like the Trailblazer, different trims mean different levels of luxury and performance.
17. Toyota C-HR
Starting at $24,130 USD, the Toyota C-HR is a compact crossover SUV that has at least this much in common with the Chevy Trailblazer. It’s not as quick to reach the sixty miles per hour mark from zero as it takes eleven seconds to do so. The wheelbase measurement between these two vehicles, however, are perfectly matched at 103.9 inches.
The C-HR length is a wee bit shorter, though, at 171.2 inches, and a wee bit slimmer at 70.7 inches. It does have a front-wheel drivetrain, as does the Trailblazer. As far as fuel economy goes, the C-HR is a bit more city-friendly at twenty-seven miles per gallon. The highway rating is thirty-one miles per gallon.
18. Toyota Corolla Cross
The Toyota Corolla Cross starts at $22,445 USD and shares the classification of a compact crossover SUV as the Chevy Trailblazer. It also has the exact same wheelbase measurements but is a bit longer at 175.6 inches in length than Trailblazer’s 173.7 inches.
Between the two, the Corolla Cross is a smidgen wider at 71.9 inches as opposed to Trailblazer’s 71.2 inches. While the Toyota C-HR comes across as a front-wheel-drive, the Toyota Corolla Cross is an all-wheel-drive unit.
The Chevy Trailblazer offers both of these drivetrain options. As for speed performance, the Corolla Cross can hit sixty miles per hour in 9.2 seconds, which is very close to the 9.4 score Trailblazer has.
However, the Trailblazer has a top speed of 130 miles an hour, meaning it can outrace its competitor by ten miles per hour in the long run. The fuel economy is the same on the highway but in the city, the Corolla Cross is a bit friendlier than the Trailblazer as its rating was twenty-nine miles per gallon.
19. Volkswagen Taos
According to the manufacturer’s recommended starting price, the Volkswagen Taos begins at $23,495 USD. It’s a little bit more than the Chevy Trailblazer but has a better zero to sixty miles per hour rating by a full two seconds. However, should it give chase to its competitor, the maximum 125 miles per hour performance is five miles per hour short to keep up.
The fuel economy in the city and on the highway are very similar to each other. The Taos has a front-wheel drivetrain, just like the Trailblazer. It’s a bit longer by 175.8 inches in length, as well as a bit wider at 72.5 inches in width. This allows ninety-nine cubic feet of passenger space inside that can hold up to five people, along with a cargo volume of twenty-eight cubic feet.
20. Volvo XC40
The Volvo XC40 starts at $34,100 USD. While the starting price is quite different from the Chevy Trailblazer, there are many similarities between these two smaller, crossover SUVs worth noting. They’re both front-wheel drive units and they both allow five passengers inside. They’re also both classified as compact crossover SUV units.
The XC40 has a top speed performance of 131 miles per hour, which narrowly beats Trailblazer by only one mile per hour. From zero to sixty, it can outrace the Trailblazer with a score of 6.2 seconds compared to 9.4 seconds. However, the Trailblazer has a slight fuel economy advantage over the XC40, but it’s only by a mile-per-gallon average.
